PETERBOROUGH have a score to settle when Wolverhampton visit the East of England on Thursday (7.30pm) in Sports Insure Premiership action.
The last time the sides met at Alwalton at the end of July, the Crendon Panthers crashed to a 34-56 defeat in what ranks as one of their most disappointing performances of the season.
Since, then matters have improved considerably, and recent wins over Sheffield and Ipswich (in the KO Cup) put them into this fixture in good heart.
Wolves clinched their play-off place by beating Sheffield at Monmore Green on Monday, and they currently sit second in the league table with three away wins so far this season.
Off-track though, they face an uncertain future just as Panthers do, with promoter Chris Van Straaten confirming earlier this week that the club will not compete in 2024 as they await a new venue after their lease to continue at Monmore Green was not extended.
Both teams are at full strength on Thursday and there is also an aggregate point on offer with the teams starting the meeting level after a 45-45 ‘draw’ in the West Midlands last month, with Wolves winning the subsequent Super Heat.
Panthers manager Rob Lyon said: “Wolves are already through to the play-offs, but it’s important for us to get another win on the board.
“It was a real shame to hear the news about Wolves earlier in the week, and although it’s been on the cards for a while you don’t like to lose any tracks. Let’s just hope both clubs can find a new home at some point in the near future.
“We’ve just got to concentrate on winning the rest of our meetings, that’s all I can concentrate on really.”
