WOLVES AT THE DOUBLE

Monday 26th October – Midland League

Wolverhampton added the Midland Championship to their League Championship success with a fairly comfortable victory over Peterborough at Monmore Green.

Initially it looked like Panthers would make a contest of it as they trailed by just 10 at the interval but as the rain came down Wolves stepped up the pace and 3 maximums in the last four heats gave them a very emphatic score line much in keeping with previous results this year.

Wolves took an early lead with 4-2’s in heats 1 & 3 but immediately doubled that with a heat 4 maximum won by an impressive and in form Ty Proctor.

Panthers captain Niels Kristian Iversen got Panthers first win in heat 5 after passing both Wolves riders on the first bend, but Wolves stretched the lead to 10 with another 4-2 in the 6th.

Guest Troy Batchelor donned the black and white in heat 7 but had to admit defeat to the better starting Karlsson with most eyes on Hansen as he just about held onto third place despite continued pressure from Kerr.

Heat 8 was awarded as Skornicki clipped the back of Vissing trying to pass him early on and both riders went down heavily, after a short delay for Skornicki to receive treatment on the track he was withdrawn from the meeting with a wrist injury having got it caught in Vissing’s back wheel.

Heat 9 was also stopped prematurely as Klindt came down whilst at the rear; the race was also awarded 3-3 with Klindt excluded.

Wolverhampton extended their lead to 12 points with an impressive start and first corner from the home pairing of Lindgren and Proctor, with the latter replacing the injured Skornicki.

Iversen came in as the second tactical in the last race before the interval and although Karlsson won the race the Panthers cut the deficit to 10 points with their second 5-3 success.

After a short delay whilst Wolves were presented with their league title the rain started to fall which dampened proceedings for the rest of the meeting.

Wolverhampton then completely took control in the final four heats with ace reserve Proctor completing a paid 18 point maximum with victory in heat 15.
