Wolverhampton Wolves 58 Peterborough Panthers 37 – Elite League A

Wolverhampton deservedly won this late A fixture to maintain their charge in the Elite League title race with a fairly easy win over the Panthers.

Early on it was the same old story with Panthers unable to match their opponents out of the gate and they certainly paid the price with Wolves storming into a 14 point lead after just 6 heats.

Iversen managed to split the home pair in heat 1 after they had made the start and Dryml repeated that move in the reserves heat 2.

Bjerre looked quick as he raced away to win the third but it was advantage Wolves in heat 4 as they left the Panthers pairing for dead.

Woffinden got the better of an early challenge from Iversen to take the fifth but Wolves stretched their lead with an easy 5-1 from Klindt and Lindgren over Dryml with Korneliussen falling whilst at the rear.

Bjerre made the most of his tactical ride with an impressive win over Karlsson and with Hansen always in control over Kerr the Panthers 7-2 cut into the deficit.

Wolverhampton then considerably upped the ante with three consecutive maximums in heats 8 to 10 which effectively ended the contest their and then.

Iversen took the second tactical in heat 11 which had to be re run after Kerr had a close encounter with the second bend air fence after getting well out of shape on the first bend, their was a slight delay while they inflated the air fence before Karlsson got the better of Iversen to win the rerun.

Dryml made an impressive start to lead the 12th but Woffinden got past him on the back straight, Proctor attempted to follow him with a wide swoop on the 3rd bend but lost it and piled into the back of Dryml with both riders coming down hard.

With Proctor excluded Dryml made the rerun despite a thumb injury with honours even as Woffinden raced away comfortably.

Heat 13 saw Bager brought in for the withdrawn Korneliussen suffering from his injuries sustained last weekends which were aggravated by his heat 6 fall.
Lindgren raced away to win easily but Karlsson was pegged back at the rear after missing the start and despite pressure for all four laps was simply unable to get past Bager, who repelled every challenge to amaze everyone by hanging onto third place behind Iversen.

Bjerre took heat 14 and a rejuvenated Bager easily held off Kerr for third.

Heat 15 was easily the best race of the night as Woffinden, Iversen and at some Bjerre held second place behind Karlsson, as the positions changed early on.
Woffinden eventually secured second place but it was tight with Iversen chasing right to the line.

All the damage was done in the first 10 heats with Panthers matching Wolves points wise over the last 5 heats.

Bjerre with three wins was the top scorer but for sheer effort Iversen led by example with fighting performances that didn’t always get the just reward in all five of his races.

As for the others, everyone had one reasonable ride amongst their totals with the exception of Korneliussen, but were simply unable to produce the consistency or starting prowess that the home side possessed.
