PANTHERS COME UP SHORT

Tuesday April 21, 2009
Swindon 53 Peterborough 40
Elite League A

Panthers run of defeats at the Abbey continued in front of the Sky cameras as they again came up short in the quest for points.

Nevertheless this was one of the better performances in recent times at Blunsdon with the Panthers top 4 all getting amongst the points, none more so than Captain Niels Kristian Iversen who well and truly laid his colours out with a fighting 12 point haul.

He received good support from Swindon asset Mads Korneliussen and Karol Zabik and although Kenneth Bjerre also weighed in with 6 points, it wasn’t one of his better nights.

Unfortunately the two reserves could only contribute a single point each with Andrew Tully forced to withdraw from the meeting after pulling up in heat 9 with a shoulder injury, sustained in a fall in heat 2.

Ales Dryml was another who only scored a point, and with the Panthers bottom end managing just 3 points between them it was too much for the rest to cover.

Swindon meanwhile had cover everywhere backing up their no 1 Leigh Adams, none more so than their reserves who managed paid 16 between them.

Adams didn’t quite get his maximum, he was beaten by Iversen in heat 13, but he recorded from the back wins against both the Panthers top 2 and Panthers had to wait until heat 7 for their first race and heat success.

Having said that they made it count with Korneliussen on tactical ride, leading home partner Karol Zabik for a massive 8-1 that reduced the arrears to just 3 points.

Swindon immediately hit back with a maximum of their own in heat 8 and although clearly not quite as dominant in the second half of the meeting, they still managed three further heat successes to stretch the winning margin to 13 points and take all 3 match points on offer.

The match also claimed another milestone with Karol Zabik now confirmed as a full Panthers asset, having ridden the required 12 meetings for the Panthers, 10 from last year and now 2 in 2009.
