PETERBOROUGH’S place in the Championship play-offs is now officially confirmed.

Glasgow’s 56-34 win over Edinburgh at Ashfield on Tuesday means there is no combination of results which can put the T.Balfe Construction Panthers out of the top four.

Edinburgh were one of the teams who could have overhauled them, but the Monarchs are now six points adrift with just one match remaining and therefore cannot catch Panthers.

The other three play-off places are set to be resolved between Workington, Lakeside, Edinburgh and Glasgow – with Berwick having an outside shot, and Ipswich potentially in the mix if the weather intervenes elsewhere.

Glasgow’s trips to Ipswich and Lakeside this week may well prove pivotal to the final top-four outcome, particularly with regard to Edinburgh’s position.

The race for top spot – and choice of semi-final opponents - currently sees Panthers five points clear, but they could be overhauled if they fail to score in this weekend’s away matches.

They visit Workington on Friday and then Rye House to face Lakeside on Saturday.

Play-off matches are likely to take place in early October.
