PETERBOROUGH have been informed their scheduled Knockout Cup trip to Lakeside on Friday July 27 has been postponed.

This is one of several fixtures to be deleted from the sport’s official list, with Panthers similarly affected the following weekend as their match at Workington is also off.

The club again apologise to supporters for a situation which is totally out of their control.

Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “I appreciate that Lakeside have been put in a very difficult position with their fixtures, and I completely understand where they are coming from.

“We have riders travelling from Denmark who pre-book flights well in advance, and therefore because this meeting has been postponed to try and ease the pressure for someone else, it comes at a cost for individual riders.

“People have booked flights and put travel arrangements in place, and we don’t see any reason why this fixture should be postponed.

“Other clubs have made team changes or have riders coming back from injury so there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be at full strength next Friday if the issue is a lack of guests.

“We have e-mails from supporters who had planned days off and booked hotels, and once again we have to let them down through no fault of our own.

“We do have good travelling support at Peterborough, it’s not just one or two people, and it’s the same the following weekend where we had supporters going up to Workington who were then going to stop off at Berwick on the Saturday before coming back for our Sunday meeting – so there’s a knock-on effect, and it’s money that other clubs now won’t get.

“We have to look after our supporters throughout the sport as top priority. They pay the wages at the end of the day, and we can’t keep expecting them to change their plans for no good reason.”

Revised dates for the affected fixtures will be notified as soon as possible, with Panthers having to fit in three trips to the Arena-Essex Raceway, as they have also been drawn against Lakeside in the Championship Shield semi-finals.
