PETERBOROUGH can confirm Sunday’s clash with Sheffield at the East of England Arena goes ahead with a 5pm start.

Panthers were prepared to switch the meeting to the evening had England reached the football World Cup Final, but with their exit to Croatia on Wednesday, the match will take place with an unchanged start-time.

Meanwhile the club are in discussions with Workington over a new date to visit Derwent Park after the scheduled away match against the Comets on Friday August 3 was postponed.

Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “I can only apologise to the supporters for a situation which is completely out of our hands.

“Workington have been asked to move various home fixtures and we have no choice in the matter.

“I know several supporters had arranged days off work, and the weekend away, to coincide with that match and to take in other meetings in the North so we’re very sorry for having to make that change.

“Regarding this weekend, I think we’ve all been energised by the success of the England football team. They’ve exceeded all expectations and done exceptionally well, and the future certainly looks bright.

“Now it’s time for us to continue a fantastic season of our own, and we want all our fans with us to enjoy it. Their support very much gives us the ‘eighth man’ we need.”

*PANTHERS are also in action at home to Scunthorpe on Friday (7.30pm). A full preview and team news will be issued later today.
