The Ben Fund Bonanza organisers are delighted to announce that the World Champion Jason Doyle will be competing in the Ben Fund Bonanza at Peterborough on March 18th. It’s obviously the biggest boost that the meeting could have.

Aussie Jason becomes the third reigning World Champ to line up in the event, previous occasions having been Jason Crump at Rye House in 2010 and Tai Woffinden at Leicester in 2014.

Doyle last rode in the meeting two years ago, which he remembers. “That was the start of the year, nice and cold I remember! It’s a good way to start the year, no pressure, just enjoy it and get back into the swing of things.

“I’ve ridden Peterborough a few times with Somerset and also back some years ago when I was with Poole. It’s a nice track to ride and hopefully it’s going to be good racing. It’s a proper racetrack, there’s many lines on it, as far as I can remember. I haven’t been for a few years so hopefully it’s the same!

“The Ben Fund helped me many years ago when I was with Poole in 2007, I needed it after breaking my ankle. So it’s benefited myself and many other riders. I spoke with Paul Ackroyd the other day and he told me they have forked out over £80,000 of help last year, which just shows how the riders benefit from the fund which this meeting is being staged for.”

Of course Jason finished both 2015 and 2016 with injuries sustained in the GPs which made last year’s success all the sweeter.

“I never got money from the Ben Fund for these injuries because they were outside of British Speedway but injuries are part and parcel of our sport and we have to deal with it. Sometimes these injuries can be life changing; I’m lucky that nothing that serious has happened to me. Out there, there are a lot of boys who have suffered from our great sport.”

Riders announced so far: Kenneth Bjerre, Hans Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen and Niels Kristian Iversen (Denmark), Chris Harris, Scott Nicholls and Danny King (UK), Jason Doyle and Nick Morris (Australia). The Ben Fund Bonanza is a major annual Speedway meeting staged for the benefit of injured riders in aid of the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund. This year’s is the tenth staging.
