PETERBOROUGH suffered another tough outing on the road on Saturday night.
The depleted ‘T Balfe Construction’ Panthers were beaten 58-34 at Workington in an SGB Championship clash.
Peterborough went into battle at Derwent Park without their top two riders as Jack Holder raced for Australia in the World Under 21 Team Cup Final and Chris Harris took part in the latest World Long Track Championship round.
The club were unable to draft in guests of that standard – eventually operating rider replacement for Holder at number one and using National League rider Joe Lawlor in place of Harris.
Lawlor, who was already present at Workington for a second-half event, accepted a late call-up when Steve Boxall failed to arrive.
Captain Ulrich Ostergaard was the star Peterborough performer with a dozen points, while another guest, Adam Roynon, who replaced the injured Bradley Wilson-Dean, racked up seven against a Workington side who axed him earlier in the season.
Ostergaard and Roynon managed a race-win apiece and Simon Lambert also took the chequered flag when triumphing in a second heat 5-1 as reserve partner Tom Bacon followed him home.
“The riders gave their all and played their part in some good racing,” said team boss Carl Johnson.
“We thank Joe for stepping in at such short notice and he certainly deserved his points.
“Adam also impressed me and there’s no doubt he should be riding at this level regularly.
“All the boys were in the points and it’s just a shame that we struggled at such a busy time in the calendar both domestically and internationally.
“We’re certainly not the only club to have struggled in that regard over the last few days.”
