PETERBOROUGH saw their injury curse strike again on Friday night when falling to a fourth successive SGB Championship defeat.
The 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers were beaten 60-30 at table-toppers Edinburgh, but the final scoreline alone certainly doesn't tell the full story.
Peterborough had their high-flying hosts worried until losing two riders to injuries following crashes.
Returning number one Jack Holder was the first man to make an early exit after sustaining a knee injury in a heat 5 spill.
And Kenneth Hansen, riding in what proved to be his final meeting for the club, soon joined him on the casualty list after suffering a hip injury in a heat eight incident when hit by home rider Mitchell Davey.
Peterborough, already operating the rider replacement facility with captain Ulrich Ostergaard on Danish League duty, only trailed by six points at that stage, but were unable to keep the Monarchs in check after being reduced to just four riders.
The hosts claimed advantages in the final seven races - the last five of them being 5-1s to give the meeting a seriously distorted look.
"We had Edinburgh worried early on," said Peterborough promoter Ged Rathbone.
"We kept it very tight and they were certainly looking over their shoulders.
"We battled on after losing one rider to injury, but we had no chance when going down to four men.
"It might sound silly after losing by 30 points, but there were definitely positives to take from part of the meeting."
Rathbone was left hugely disappointed by a couple of major refereeing decisions which went against his side.
He felt Holder was clearly impeded by Edinburgh man Erik Riss when hitting the deck in heat five and had also been frustrated to see the previous race awarded after a second lap tumble from Tom Bacon.
That handed the visitors a 5-1 which put them ahead after the opening three heats had been shared.
Rathbone added: "All I ask for from referees is a bit of consistency, but unfortunately we're not getting that.
"We were told at Berwick last Saturday by one referee that a race could not be awarded after an incident on the second lap. Last night a different referee did award a race in those circumstances.
"It was also clear that Jack was wiped out when he crashed, but that decision also went against us."
Holder faces a fitness test ahead of a trip to Glasgow tonight, when Peterborough will be spearhead by major new signing Chris Harris.
