PETERBOROUGH suffered Premier League Fours Championship disappointment today (Sunday).
The ‘TC Harrison’ Panthers quartet of Lasse Bjerre, Ulrich Ostergaard, Ales Dryml and Lewis Blackbird could not make the most of home advantage at the East of England Showground when finishing third in their semi-final.
That meant an early exit in an event won by Somerset Rebels who wrapped up the Fours crown with a race to spare in the final.
Peterborough riders managed three victories from eight races in their semi-final, but a Bjerre crash in heat five and a couple of other last places cost them dear.
They were also dealt some bad luck as Dryml led heat 7 when Newcastle man Ludvig Lindgren crashed heavily, but could only then finish third in the re-run to all but end Panthers’ hopes of advancing
Team boss Carl Johnson admitted: “We were definitely good enough to win the meeting in my opinion and it is disappointing to not even make the final.
“Things didn’t go our way in the last two heats of the semi, but we only collected one point from four races and that’s not good enough on our own track.”
The club’s seven-and-a-half year wait for a trophy continues as they turn their attention back to Premier League action ahead of a trip to Scunthorpe on Friday (August 8).
