LEWIS Blackbird has billed reaching the British Final as the biggest achievement of his blossoming speedway career.
The Peterborough man powered through with an 11-point haul in a semi-final showdown at Rye House last night (Wednesday).
Blackbird was one of four riders to share second place behind reigning world champion Tai Woffinden, who scorched to a maximum.
The ‘TC Harrison’ Panthers ace, in only his fourth season in the sport, said: “This is the best thing I’ve done in my career so far.
“It was a good line-up last night and I never expected to get through. I’m over the moon to reach the Final.
“I made a few changes to the bike after my first couple of heats and they worked well. I did things completely differently to what I have done at Rye House before and won my next two races.”
Blackbird isn’t short of knowledge about British Final venue Monmore Green.
The Wolverhampton circuit, which stages the national showpiece on Monday June 16, was the 27 year-old’s home track when he rode for Dudley in the National League during 2013.
He added: “I had a good year riding at Monmore. I like the track and managed to put in a few big scores while I was riding for Dudley.
“Hopefully I can go back and do well in the Final.”
