The Peterborough Readypower Panthers completed the double over Elite League Champions Coventry to book their passage into the Knock Out Cup quarter final.
The Panthers' hunt for silverware remains firmly on track as a two-point home triumph meant that the ity men secured a 10-point aggregate victory following the eight-point triumph at Brandon last month and now go through to meet Belle Vue in the next round.
Coventry, still reeling from the suspension of skipper Edward Kennett, provided strong resistance and Russian sensation Emil Sayfutdinov led the way with an entertaining 15 point haul.
But the home side again showed why they are unbeaten at the Showground with strong performances all the way through the side.
Troy Batchelor notched 11 paid 12, including three brilliant battles – one win and two defeats – with Sayfutdinov.
Krzysztof Buczkowski had his best home meeting for some time with paid-10, while his opening race partner Nicki Pedersen providing good support with eight paid nine.
Youngsters Linus Sundström and Richard Lawson won two races apiece, particularly impressive from the Swede as he took over the difficult number five race-jacket.
Top-scorer Batchelor, recovered from the bronchitis that kept him out of last week's defeat at Swindon, was pleased to see the team secure their place in the next stage of the competition.
He said: "We did well tonight, even if we dipped a bit at the end. We knew that we'd have to be on our guard because Coventry are pretty good round here andthey showed that.
"Obviously we had the eight-point lead from the first leg but we wanted to win today because we want to keep our unbeaten record at home.
“The track got slicker towards the end and we struggled a bit but we did enough early on to make sure we're through.
"I got paid-12 and I was pleased with that, but I was a bit bummed about coming third in the last heat. I think we passed and re-passed about four times but in the end I just couldn't get through. It was a good battle."
Once again there was some tremendous racing – and nothing better than an astonishing last to first by Buczkowski in Heat eight.
He trailed the Coventry pair before swooping inches from the fence to bring the house down.
Fellow Pole Norbert Kosciuch had the grandstand fans on their feet with a tremendous late burst off the last bend to nick a crucial point off Denmark’s Kenni Larsen in Heat five.
And Sayftudinov relished the East of England Showground wide open spaces with some dramatic and thrilling outside lines that kept the match alive despite Peterborough being safely through to the next round.
Batchelor was also pleased to see Dakota North practicing after the meeting and is also looking forward to welcoming back Kacper Gomolski from a lengthy lay-off: “It'll be good to finally have a full team.
“The boys have been missing a while but hopefully they'll slot straight back in and carry on where they left off. With Dak and Richard we have two good boys to double up and Kacper will be a strong reserve.”
The Panthers now travel to Birmingham on Thursday for a vital away clash in the Elite League, where they will look to build on the point gained last week at Swindon.
