Australian Troy Batchelor produced arguably his best ever performance in a Peterborough race jacket to inspire the Readypower Panthers to a brilliant eight-point victory at Coventry in the Knockout Cup.
The Panthers have given themselves a great chance of progressing to the next round, where the winners of this tie will face Belle Vue, with their best away performance of the season, led by the marvellous Batchelor with a 15 point maximum.
Super Swede Linus Sundström was close to his first ever Peterborough maximum as he reeled off four consecutive heat wins before coming to grief in the final heat, including victories over Emil Sayfutdinov, Edward Kennett and Przemyslaw Pawlicki.
Krzysztof Buczkowski and Norbert Kosciuch continued their improvement away from home with five apiece, including a race win each, while Richard Lawson and Taylor Poole scored vital points at the bottom.
Skipper Nicki Pedersen bravely battled on after suffering rib injuries after a heavy crash in the opening heat but he went on to get two paid wins, including a pivotal ride in heat 13 to thwart a tactical ride by Sayfutdinov.
He was brought down while on another first heat maximum with partner Sundström but refused to pull out even though Bees' Ryan Fisher, who was thrown outo of the re-run had to withdraw with an ankle injury.
The Panthers were always in control and provided 12 out of 15 race winners, and the city side never looked back when Sundström and Lawson raced to a 5-1 in heat eight to nudge their team back ahead after Coventry had pegged back the visitors after a fast start to the meeting.
That lead was built upon in the subsequent heats and even a 5-3 advantage to Coventry in heat 13 failed to make a sizeable dent in the lead as Batchelor secured the victory with a tapes-to-flag win in heat 14.
Batchelor went on to secure his maximum with a win in heat 15, and he admits that it is possibly his best meeting as a Panthers rider: "It's definitely up there in terms of my best meetings, for sure.
"I just made some good starts and got out in front and rode my own race. It was difficult track conditions but it's a lot easier if you can get out in front! It's been a good day; good starts and a great result for the team.
"We pulled off a win and we've showed what we can do when we click. It's good to see the Polish boys do well away, especially Norbi. He's struggled a bit away from home but tonight he was great, and that bodes pretty well for us.
"Obviously it's pleasing to get the advantage in the first-leg but Coventry go really well at our place so we're not taking anything for granted. They will want to pull it back and they're capable of coming to the Showground and winning, so we're not going to get complacent.
"But we've shown tonight what we are capable of and I thinks it's looking pretty good for us if we can continue this form."
