The Peterborough Readypower Panthers failed to repeat their earlier heroics at Brandon last night (Friday) as they went down by 16 points at Coventry.
Panthers, still on a high from the last-gasp victory at the Showground in the earlier fixture, were hit by two mid-meeting 5-1's that took them from six points down to 14, all but ending their chances of victory.
Despite the heavy defeat, there were plenty of positives for the city side as Krzysztof Buczkowski, Kacper Gomolski and Linus Sundström all put in some impressive rides, as did skipper Nicki Pedersen.
Panthers number one Pedersen was in the middle of all sorts of controversy, culminating in a heated discussion with home man Edward Kennett and the Dane finished his night with a hard win over fellow countryman Kenni Larsen.
That clash led to Larsen ranting over the tannoy at the end of the meeting, saying; "He (Pedersen) needs to calm down, sometimes he isn't even in control, did you see the race with Kennett?!"
Whilst Pedersen made the headlines, big-money signing Sundström rode impressively and was happy with his evening performance: "This morning's meeting was terrible, apart from my last ride, but this evening was a lot better for me.
"It will take me a few meetings to get dialled in and to get used to the new silencers and stuff, but I am confident I can. The Peterborough track is so much different to what I was used to but I need to get my setups sorted and get some track time.
"I was only ever going to be riding for Peterborough, I didn't want to ride anywhere else. I had a Plan B in case we weren't in the league with Poland and Sweden but I am happy we are riding!"
The Panthers come out of Good Friday with their first two league points in the bag and will look to add to that tally on Thursday, when high-flying Eastbourne are the Showground visitors.
COVENTRY 54 (Przemyslaw Pawlicki 11:2, Edward Kennett 10:1, Chris Harris10, Kenni Larsen 8:2, Ryan Fisher 8:2, Nick Morris 7:2).
