SCOTT BACK AS LINE-UP COMPLETE

Thursday October 05, 2023
PETERBOROUGH’S 2021 title-winning captain Scott Nicholls will be back for the Farewell to the Showground meeting on Saturday (7pm).

Nicholls famously led the Crendon Panthers’ ‘Dad’s Army’ side to an unexpected but memorable Premiership triumph two years ago, and he becomes the third member of that line-up to be confirmed for the last event at the venue.

The 45-year-old stepped away from regular Premiership racing this year but has been in vintage form in the Championship for Oxford, and very competitive in his guest appearances in the top-flight. He joins Chris Harris and Michael Palm Toft from that team of ’21 to be racing on Saturday.

Also confirmed for Saturday’s meeting is current team member Niels-Kristian Iversen, who made a welcome return to Panthers in 2023 and completed the season in vintage form.

Iversen will join team-mates Harris, Ben Cook and Jordan Jenkins in the field meaning four current Panthers will be taking part.

Elsewhere, Showground specialist Ryan Douglas is also a confirmed starter and will be amongst the favourites for the win on the night.

Douglas enjoyed success at the venue in 2016 with victory in the one-off Individual event which was run as part of the Fours Weekend, and then piled up big scores almost every time he visited in the Premiership, generally with Wolverhampton.

The line-up also includes current Scunthorpe rider Connor Mountain, who has spent time as a Rising Star in the Premiership in recent seasons and was a regular in the King’s Lynn team as a guest in the closing weeks of the season.

*The club are also delighted to confirm legendary announcer Edwin Overland has agreed to make a return to call the final race at the venue.

Edwin is regarded by all as the ‘voice of the Showground’ but had to stand down from racenight duties this season due to ill health.

However, he will be present at the meeting on Saturday and will be handed the microphone by current announcer Kevin Moore ahead of the Final for a fitting conclusion and what will undoubtedly be a highly emotional moment.
