NEW SEASON, NEW MASCOT!

Wednesday March 23, 2022
PETERBOROUGH will have a new mascot this season with 11-year-old Emerson Betty joining the club.

He will gain valuable experience mixing with the first team on race nights and his ultimate aim is to make it to the Premiership with the club.

Max Perry, 14, will get his first taste of competitive league racing this year with Leicester’s National League side after spending time with Peterborough as mascot.

Co-promoter Carl Johnson said: “Emerson is 11 years old, he started riding speedway in the summer of 2021 at Scunthorpe where straight away he was a natural on a bike.

“Since then his parents haven’t been able to keep him off the bike! He even broke his wrist at the end of last season but he was back on the bike at the first available opportunity!”

Perry, meanwhile, will remain with the club as part of the Premiership Junior League team and aims to graduate into the first team.

Said Johnson: “Having overseen the emergence of Max since 2018 and seen him grow into a fantastic talent with a massive future, I can truly say Max and his family, Robert and Cara, have been an absolute pleasure to deal with.

“They have put themselves forward for any events to promote Peterborough Speedway from cold windy afternoons standing handing out leaflets to switching on the Christmas lights at the local shopping centre.

“Their commitment to the club has been second to none and We appreciate all they have done for us and look forward to seeing him back in Peterborough colours.”

Meanwhile Peterborough’s riders will be back at Alwalton on Monday for the club’s press and practice day.

They will meet the media from 11.30 for interviews and photo opportunities, followed by track action at 2pm.

And fans will have the opportunity to meet the riders when they attend an evening event hosted by the Supporters Club on Monday night at the Post Office Club – doors open at 7pm for a 7.30 start with admission on the door.

Before then, however, they host the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund meeting on Sunday (2pm) featuring home favourites Scott Nicholls, Ulrich Ostergaard and Jordan Palin.
